This is not yet a video, nor is it a kids product. I am, nonetheless, compelled to write a review. In summary: Dads, please ask Mom before allowing junior to view this movie. If she says no, please do listen.
WARNING! I'm about to give away part of the ending (as if you can't figure it out): Imagine your five year old watching, wide-eyed, while children are slaughtered, a man's legs are amputated by his best friend, and the same man slips slowly into a river of lava, burning alive, screaming, while his friend watches. The father sitting behind me in the theater walked sheepishly down the aisle while his little guy, slack-jawed and dazed, ruminated on the images he just witnessed.
I'm a big Star Wars fan. The movie is what it is. It would have been much better with the element of surprise on its side, but of course, that's not possible. Strip away the eye-popping effects, merchandising and media hype, and Star Wars Revenge of the Sith is mediocre at best.
Let's talk about merchandising for a moment. It makes my blood boil that a movie like this would push so hard to small children. Most of the toys garnered huge popularity with the 3+ age group.
Please don't bring your little ones to this film, no matter how they beg. I explained to my little Star Wars fanatic that he can see it when he's older, and that seemed to be enough for him.
I'll give it 2 stars for the grown-ups who may enjoy the spectacular effects. Added: Thursday, June 16, 2005
